Andrew’s father died in 1919 in Geelong Victoria.
War Service
Andrew enlisted into the Army on 31 January 1917. He was aged 24 years and five months and he was 5 feet six and a third inches tall. He weighed 142 pounds and had a chest measurement of thirty three and thirty seven inches. His complexion was listed as fresh, with blue eyes and brown hair. All of this was recorded at the time of his enlistment.
His service number was 35018 and his unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A15 Port Sydney on 9 November 1917. He was with the Field Artillery Brigade, 27th Reinforcements and was a Gunner. Andrew arrived at Alexandria on 18 December 1917, staying there until 4 January 1918 where he disembarked at Southampton. He proceeded overseas to France on 12 June 1918 and marched into the Australian General Base Camp 13 June 1918.
Andrew was appointed Saddler on 23 June 1918. He stayed in France until 8 May 1919 where he had returned to Australia. Andrew was discharged from the AIF on 16 July 1919.
Post War
Andrew Gilbert married Annie Crane in 1920, in Victoria.
They had two children:
From 1927 to 1931, he is living in Corangamite, Camperdown with Annie; and then from 1934 to 1937 he is in Ballarat, Ballan.
Andrew Condie died in Ballarat in 1937 and he was buried in the Geelong Western Cemetery.
