Biographical Text

No.V81263  Stanley George Atkins
It is entirely possible that the details relating to this soldier are incorrect. The Werribee Shire Banner in 1918 includes the name of a S Atkins, Laverton as a soldier who served in World War I.  No similar file has been uncovered, and the only apparent Melbourne candidate was Stanley George Atkins, an 18-year-old bookbinder from Kew, Victoria. He enlisted on 16 October 1918, barely a month before the war ended.

Confusion surrounded his initial enrolment, resulting in an investigation as to whether his mother had approved his enlistment.  By the time the investigation was over, Stanley Atkins wasn’t called for service.
