No.5715  John (Jack) Mossop
John was born in 1881 at Bullarto, Victoria.  His father was John Mossop (1840-1924) and he lived at 42 Gourlay Street, St Kilda, Victoria at the time of his sons enlistment. His mother was Ellen Pridmore (1850-1919).

War Service
John enlisted into the Army at the age of 35 years 2 months at Werribee, Victoria on 6 March 1916.  His unit was the 7th Infantry Battalion, 18th Reinforcements.

He was five feet and five and a half inches tall.  Weighed 134 pounds and had a chest measurement of 36/38 inches. His eyes were blue and he had light brown hair. 
All of this was recorded at the time of his enlistment.

John had a younger brother Henry Reuben Mossop who also enlisted in Melbourne on 23 March 1916.

John went AWL on 3 July 1916 and never saw service overseas, due to that he received no medals.

Post War
He married Louisa Victoria Thornburgh (1881–1964) at St Arnaud after 1942.

He passed away in January 1954 and is buried at the St Arnaud Cemetery (C of E, Row 9, Grave 41, Marker 547D).
