[Listed on RSL Honor Board as Steane, B., but in Roll of Honor, Werribee Shire Banner originally listed as Stean, P.].
The Werribee Shire area covered a vast area in 1915-1920 and there are names on the honor board from Werribee, Tarneit, Truganina, Little River, Mount Cottrell, Metropolitan Farm, West Footscray, Melton, Williamstown, Laverton, Newport, Bacchus Marsh and Spotswood.
No soldier by the name of B. Steane, or P. Stean, could be found in the National Archives of Australia or the AIF Project or on the Australian War Memorial Embarkation Rolls.
The name Stean, P. first appeared in the Roll of Honor, Werribee Shire Banner, 22 July 1915, p.3.
After the war had ended, the name had changed to B. Steane, Werribee in the Roll of Honor, Werribee Shire Banner, 20 February 1919, p.1.
Whilst this name and initial appears in the Werribee Shire Banner's Roll of Honor and on the RSL Honor Board, no soldier could be found with the surname of Stean or Steane who had any link to Werribee.
